Jacques Firmin BEAUVARLET (Abbeville 1731 - 1797) "Le Jeu de Quilles" (the ancestor of bowling) Original etching by a subject by Leonard Braemer, published by Beauvarlet himself in Paris before 1776, year in which he obtained the title by Graveur du Roy which is not present in this print. Beautiful specimen in the rare original edition on typical eighteenth-century laid paper bearing the "Two-faced crowned eagle", typical of French paper production of the eighteenth century, in particular in the Auvergne region, with small margins beyond the imprint of the plate, slightly burnished and with some tears formerly recomposed but overall in excellent general condition. Rare subject and particularly sought after in the theme of games. Bibliography: Benezit "Dictionnaire des Peintres ..." Paris 1976 vol.1 pag.556. Measurements in mm: 382 x 431
